VaultSort 5.5.0-beta.0
UIAdvanced OrganizeOrganizeCleanProtect
A new look: graphite surfaces, the system's own translucent sidebar, live 3D artwork for Organize, Clean and Protect, a redesigned launch screen and a calmer Advanced Organize.
What's New
- VaultSort now looks like amazing. The navy gradient, the bright blue, green and purple card fills and the all-caps headings are gone. Every page now sits on neutral graphite with soft depth on cards and one quiet button style throughout, so no card shouts over the others. Where colour still appears, it is Apple's own system blue, mint and indigo, and it is kept to the artwork, small icons and whatever you have selected. Nothing has moved: every page, button and flow is exactly where it was.
- Organize, Clean and Protect each have their own live 3D artwork. On the Home cards and at the top of each section, a small sculpture shows what the job does. For Organize, a fan of plates settles into a neat stack. For Clean, droplets merge into one, the way duplicates become a single copy. For Protect, a combination dial turns around a lit keyhole. Each takes 12 to 16 seconds to complete a cycle, nothing flashes, and the artwork stops drawing whenever the window is hidden or the artwork is scrolled out of view. With Reduce Motion on, it holds still.
- A soft band of light across the top of the window. A thin arc in VaultSort's amber, fading through rose to indigo, sits just above the page title and drifts very slowly. It is deliberately faint, and it stays still with Reduce Motion on.
- A new launch screen. The screen you see while VaultSort starts has been redesigned from scratch: the three amber folders of the logo slide into the vault one at a time and keep shuffling gently until the app is ready. The flat logo and its spinner are gone, and the intro that follows now reads "Organize · Clean · Protect".
- Advanced Organize is calmer and easier to scan. Its buttons no longer shout in capital letters, and the main actions are blue rather than the green that also marked finished jobs. On each job, Run and Dry Run are now proper buttons. Rules, Edit, Export and Duplicate step back to plain text, and Delete only turns red when you point at it, instead of all seven actions appearing in seven different colours. The current page number in long lists is readable again, and the template tiles are no longer purple, a colour that is meant for AI features.
- Easier-to-read colours in the light screens. Green, blue and purple status text now uses darker shades of Apple's system colours, all readable on a white background. The green used before was too faint to read comfortably as text.
- Folders are blue, as they are in Finder. Folders in the Files panel and its favourites used to be yellow and amber, which is the Windows look.
- Home is titled "Home" once you are up and running. "Welcome to VaultSort" and its introduction now appear only until you have run your first operation, which also leaves room for the whole Recent Activity list.
- Update and Upgrade are clearer in the window's top bar. When an update is waiting, a small "Update" button appears in the top bar, and it turns blue once the update is ready to install. Upgrade is now a gold "Upgrade" button. Both used to be unlabelled outlined icons.
Bug Fixes
- Long release notes no longer make the What's New list scroll sideways. A release labelled with many topics, as 5.4.0 was with eleven, put all of its tags on a single line that could not wrap, so the News window grew a horizontal scrollbar. Tags now wrap onto as many lines as they need, and long words in the notes wrap too.
